²⁹ The next day he *saw Jesus coming to him, and *said, “Behold, ^(A)the Lamb of God who ^(B)takes away the sin of the world!

³ And everyone who has this ^(A)hope set on Him ^(B)purifies himself, just as He is pure.

⁴ Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; and ^(C)sin is lawlessness. ⁵ You know that He ^(D)appeared in order to ^(E)take away sins; and ^(F)in Him there is no sin. ⁶ No one who remains in Him ^(G)sins continually; no one who sins continually has seen Him or ^[a](H)knows Him. ^7 (I)Little children, make sure no one ^(J)deceives you; ^(K)the one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous; ⁸ the one who practices sin is ^(L)of the devil; for the devil ^[b]has been sinning from the beginning. ^(M)The Son of God ^(N)appeared for this purpose, ^(O)to destroy the works of the devil. ⁹ No one who has been ^(P)born of God practices sin, because His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin continually, because he has been born of God.

God Is Light

^5 (A)This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that ^(B)God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. ^6 (C)If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we ^(D)lie and ^(E)do not practice the truth; ⁷ but if we ^(F)walk in the Light as ^(G)He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and ^(H)the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
