14 Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He (A)Himself likewise shared in the same, (B)that through death He might destroy him who had the power of (C)death, that is, the devil, 15 and release those who (D)through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. 16 For indeed He does not [a]give aid to angels, but He does [b]give aid to the seed of Abraham. 17 Therefore, in all things He had (E)to be made like His brethren, that He might be (F)a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18 (G)For in that He Himself has suffered, being [c]tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.

The Son Was Faithful

Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus, who was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as (H)Moses also was faithful in all His house. For this One has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as (I)He who built the house has more honor than the house. For every house is built by someone, but (J)He who built all things is God. (K)And Moses indeed was faithful in all His house as (L)a servant, (M)for a testimony of those things which would be spoken afterward, but Christ as (N)a Son over His own house, (O)whose house we are (P)if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope [d]firm to the end.

14 Since the children have flesh and blood,(A) he too shared in their humanity(B) so that by his death he might break the power(C) of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil(D) 15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear(E) of death. 16 For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham’s descendants.(F) 17 For this reason he had to be made like them,[a](G) fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful(H) and faithful high priest(I) in service to God,(J) and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.(K) 18 Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.(L)

Jesus Greater Than Moses

Therefore, holy brothers and sisters,(M) who share in the heavenly calling,(N) fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge(O) as our apostle and high priest.(P) He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house.(Q) Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses,(R) just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself. For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.(S) “Moses was faithful as a servant(T) in all God’s house,”[b](U) bearing witness to what would be spoken by God in the future. But Christ is faithful as the Son(V) over God’s house. And we are his house,(W) if indeed we hold firmly(X) to our confidence and the hope(Y) in which we glory.
