⁷ But ^[a]stay away from ^(A)worthless ^(B)stories that are typical of old women. Rather, ^[b]discipline yourself for the purpose of ^(C)godliness; ⁸ for ^(D)bodily training is just slightly beneficial, but ^(E)godliness is beneficial for all things, since it ^(F)holds promise for the ^(G)present life and also for the life to come.

³ If anyone ^(A)advocates a different doctrine and does not ^[a]agree with ^(B)sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the doctrine ^(C)conforming to godliness,

Salutation

1 Paul, ^(A)a bond-servant of God and an ^(B)apostle of Jesus Christ, ^[a]for the faith of those ^(C)chosen of God and ^(D)the knowledge of the truth which is ^(E)according to godliness,

^2 (A)Grace and peace be multiplied to you in ^(B)the knowledge of God and of Jesus ^[a]our Lord, ³ for His ^(C)divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true ^(D)knowledge of Him who ^(E)called us ^[b]by His own glory and ^[c]excellence. ⁴ Through ^[d]these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent ^(F)promises, so that by them you may become ^(G)partakers of the divine nature, having ^(H)escaped the ^(I)corruption that is in ^(J)the world on account of lust.

A New Heaven and Earth

¹⁰ But ^(A)the day of the Lord ^(B)will come like a thief, in which ^(C)the heavens ^(D)will pass away with a roar and the ^(E)elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and ^(F)the earth and ^[a]its works will be ^[b]discovered.

¹¹ Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness,
