They asked, “What guilt offering should we send back to him?”

And they answered, “Five gold tumors and five gold mice(A) corresponding to the number of Philistine rulers,(B) since there was one plague for both you[a] and your rulers. Make images of your tumors and of your mice that are destroying the land. Give glory to Israel’s God,(C) and perhaps he will stop oppressing you,[b](D) your gods, and your land.(E) Why harden your hearts as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened theirs?(F) When he afflicted them, didn’t they send Israel away, and Israel left?(G)

They replied, “Five gold tumors and five gold rats, according to the number(A) of the Philistine rulers, because the same plague(B) has struck both you and your rulers. Make models of the tumors(C) and of the rats that are destroying the country, and give glory(D) to Israel’s god. Perhaps he will lift his hand from you and your gods and your land. Why do you harden(E) your hearts as the Egyptians and Pharaoh did? When Israel’s god dealt harshly with them,(F) did they(G) not send the Israelites out so they could go on their way?
