Therefore, brethren, (A)seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this (B)business; but we (C)will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word.”

And the saying pleased the whole multitude. And they chose Stephen, (D)a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, and (E)Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and (F)Nicolas, a proselyte from Antioch, whom they set before the apostles; and (G)when they had prayed, (H)they laid hands on them.

Then (I)the word of God spread, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many (J)of the priests were obedient to the faith.

Stephen Accused of Blasphemy

And Stephen, full of [a]faith and power, did great (K)wonders and signs among the people. Then there arose some from what is called the Synagogue of the Freedmen (Cyrenians, Alexandrians, and those from Cilicia and Asia), disputing with Stephen. 10 And (L)they were not able to resist the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spoke.

Stephen Seized

Now Stephen, a man full of God’s grace and power, performed great wonders and signs(L) among the people. Opposition arose, however, from members of the Synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called)—Jews of Cyrene(M) and Alexandria as well as the provinces of Cilicia(N) and Asia(O)—who began to argue with Stephen. 10 But they could not stand up against the wisdom the Spirit gave him as he spoke.(P)
