Genesis 14:13-24
New American Standard Bible
13 Then [a]a survivor came and told Abram the (A)Hebrew. Now he was residing by the [b](B)oaks of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and brother of Aner, and they were [c](C)allies with Abram. 14 When Abram heard that (D)his relative had been taken captive, he [d]led out his trained men, (E)born in his house, numbering 318, and went in pursuit as far as (F)Dan. 15 Then (G)he divided [e]his forces against them by night, he and his servants, and [f]defeated them, and pursued them as far as Hobah, which is [g]north of (H)Damascus. 16 He (I)brought back all the possessions, and also brought back (J)his relative Lot with his possessions, and also the women, and the other people.
God’s Promise to Abram
17 Then after his return from the [h]defeat of Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, (K)the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the Valley of Shaveh (that is, (L)the King’s Valley). 18 And (M)Melchizedek the king of Salem brought out (N)bread and wine; now he was a (O)priest of [i]God Most High. 19 And he blessed him and said,
“Blessed be Abram of [j]God Most High,
[k](P)Possessor of heaven and earth;
20 And blessed be [l]God Most High,
Who has handed over your enemies to you.”
And (Q)he gave him a tenth of everything. 21 Then the king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give the [m]people to me and take the possessions for yourself.” 22 But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have [n]sworn to the Lord [o](R)God Most High, [p](S)Possessor of heaven and earth, 23 that (T)I will not take a thread or a sandal strap or anything that is yours, so that you do not say, ‘I have made Abram rich.’ 24 [q]I will take nothing except what the young men have eaten, and the share of the men who went with me, (U)Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their share.”

17 After Abram returned from defeating Kedorlaomer(L) and the kings allied with him, the king of Sodom(M) came out to meet him in the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King’s Valley).(N)

20 And praise be to God Most High,(W)
who delivered your enemies into your hand.”
Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.(X)
21 The king of Sodom(Y) said to Abram, “Give me the people and keep the goods(Z) for yourself.”
22 But Abram said to the king of Sodom,(AA) “With raised hand(AB) I have sworn an oath to the Lord, God Most High,(AC) Creator of heaven and earth,(AD) 23 that I will accept nothing belonging to you,(AE) not even a thread or the strap of a sandal, so that you will never be able to say, ‘I made Abram rich.’ 24 I will accept nothing but what my men have eaten and the share that belongs to the men who went with me—to Aner, Eshkol and Mamre.(AF) Let them have their share.”
