Isaiah 58:5-10
New American Standard Bible
5 Is it a fast like this that I choose, a day for a person to humble himself?
Is it for bowing [a]one’s head like a reed
And for spreading out (A)sackcloth and ashes as a bed?
Will you call this a fast, even an (B)acceptable day to the Lord?
6 Is this not the fast that I choose:
To (C)release the bonds of wickedness,
To undo the ropes of the yoke,
And to (D)let the oppressed go free,
And (E)break every yoke?
7 Is it not to (F)break your bread [b]with the hungry
And (G)bring the homeless poor into the house;
When you see the (H)naked, to cover him;
And not to (I)hide yourself from your own flesh?
8 Then your (J)light will break out like the dawn,
And your (K)recovery will spring up quickly;
And your (L)righteousness will go before you;
The glory of the (M)Lord will be your rear guard.
9 Then you will (N)call, and the Lord will answer;
You will cry for help, and He will say, ‘Here I am.’
If you (O)remove the yoke from your midst,
The [c](P)pointing of the finger and (Q)speaking wickedness,
10 And if you (R)offer yourself to the hungry
And satisfy the [d]need of the afflicted,
Then your (S)light will rise in darkness,
And your gloom will become like midday.

Amplified Bible
5
“Is a fast such as this what I have chosen, a day for a man to humble himself [with sorrow in his soul]?
Is it only to bow down his head like a reed
And to make sackcloth and ashes as a bed [pretending to have a repentant heart]?
Do you call this a fast and a day pleasing to the Lord?
6
“[Rather] is this not the fast which I choose,
To undo the bonds of wickedness,
To tear to pieces the ropes of the yoke,
To let the oppressed go free
And break apart every [enslaving] yoke?(A)
7
“Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry
And bring the homeless poor into the house;
When you see the naked, that you cover him,
And not to hide yourself from [the needs of] your own flesh and blood?
8
“Then your light will break out like the dawn,
And your healing (restoration, new life) will quickly spring forth;
Your righteousness will go before you [leading you to peace and prosperity],
The glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.(B)
9
“Then you will call, and the Lord will answer;
You will cry for help, and He will say, ‘Here I am.’
If you take away from your midst the yoke [of oppression],
The finger pointed in scorn [toward the oppressed or the godly], and [every form of] wicked (sinful, unjust) speech,(C)
10
And if you offer yourself to [assist] the hungry
And satisfy the [a]need of the afflicted,
Then your light will rise in darkness
And your gloom will become like midday.

King James Version
5 Is it such a fast that I have chosen? a day for a man to afflict his soul? is it to bow down his head as a bulrush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to the Lord?
6 Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
7 Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?
8 Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the Lord shall be thy reward.
9 Then shalt thou call, and the Lord shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity;
10 And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noon day:
