Assurance to Baruch

45 The ^(A)word that Jeremiah the prophet spoke to ^(B)Baruch the son of Neriah, when he had written these words in a book ^[a]at the instruction of Jeremiah, in the ^(C)fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, saying, ²“Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, to you, O Baruch: ³‘You said, “Woe is me now! For the Lord has added grief to my sorrow. I ^(D)fainted in my sighing, and I find no rest.” ’

⁴“Thus you shall say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord: “Behold, ^(E)what I have built I will break down, and what I have planted I will pluck up, that is, this whole land. ⁵And do you seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them; for behold, ^(F)I will bring adversity on all flesh,” says the Lord. “But I will give your ^(G)life to you as a prize in all places, wherever you go.” ’ ”

Judgment on Egypt

46 The word of the Lord which came to Jeremiah the prophet against ^(H)the nations. ²Against ^(I)Egypt.

^(J)Concerning the army of Pharaoh Necho, king of Egypt, which was by the River Euphrates in Carchemish, and which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon ^(K)defeated in the ^(L)fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah:

³“Order^[b] the ^[c]buckler and shield,
And draw near to battle!
⁴Harness the horses,
And mount up, you horsemen!
Stand forth with your helmets,
Polish the spears,
^(M)Put on the armor!
⁵Why have I seen them dismayed and turned back?
Their mighty ones are beaten down;
They have speedily fled,
And did not look back,
For ^(N)fear was all around,” says the Lord.
⁶“Do not let the swift flee away,
Nor the mighty man escape;
They will ^(O)stumble and fall
Toward the north, by the River Euphrates.

⁷“Who is this coming up ^(P)like a flood,
Whose waters move like the rivers?
⁸Egypt rises up like a flood,
And its waters move like the rivers;
And he says, ‘I will go up and cover the earth,
I will destroy the city and its inhabitants.’
⁹Come up, O horses, and rage, O chariots!
And let the mighty men come forth:
^[d]The Ethiopians and ^[e]the Libyans who handle the shield,
And the Lydians ^(Q)who handle and bend the bow.
¹⁰For this is ^(R)the day of the Lord God of hosts,
A day of vengeance,
That He may avenge Himself on His adversaries.
^(S)The sword shall devour;
It shall be ^[f]satiated and made drunk with their blood;
For the Lord God of hosts ^(T)has a sacrifice
In the north country by the River Euphrates.

¹¹“Go^(U) up to Gilead and take balm,
^(V)O virgin, the daughter of Egypt;
In vain you will use many medicines;
^(W)You shall not be cured.
¹²The nations have heard of your ^(X)shame,
And your cry has filled the land;
For the mighty man has stumbled against the mighty;
They both have fallen together.”

Babylonia Will Strike Egypt

¹³The word that the Lord spoke to Jeremiah the prophet, how Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon would come and ^(Y)strike the land of Egypt.

¹⁴“Declare in Egypt, and proclaim in ^(Z)Migdol;
Proclaim in ^[g]Noph and in ^(AA)Tahpanhes;
Say, ‘Stand fast and prepare yourselves,
For the sword devours all around you.’
¹⁵Why are your valiant men swept away?
They did not stand
Because the Lord drove them away.
¹⁶He made many fall;
Yes, ^(AB)one fell upon another.
And they said, ‘Arise!
^(AC)Let us go back to our own people
And to the land of our nativity
From the oppressing sword.’
¹⁷They cried there,
‘Pharaoh, king of Egypt, is but a noise.
He has passed by the appointed time!’

¹⁸“As I live,” says the King,
^(AD)Whose name is the Lord of hosts,
“Surely as Tabor is among the mountains
And as Carmel by the sea, so he shall come.
¹⁹O ^(AE)you daughter dwelling in Egypt,
Prepare yourself ^(AF)to go into captivity!
For ^[h]Noph shall be waste and desolate, without inhabitant.

²⁰“Egypt is a very pretty ^(AG)heifer,
But destruction comes, it comes ^(AH)from the north.
²¹Also her mercenaries are in her midst like ^[i]fat bulls,
For they also are turned back,
They have fled away together.
They did not stand,
For ^(AI)the day of their calamity had come upon them,
The time of their punishment.
²²^(AJ)Her noise shall go like a serpent,
For they shall march with an army
And come against her with axes,
Like those who chop wood.

²³“They shall ^(AK)cut down her forest,” says the Lord,
“Though it cannot be searched,
Because they are innumerable,
And more numerous than ^(AL)grasshoppers.
²⁴The daughter of Egypt shall be ashamed;
She shall be delivered into the hand
Of ^(AM)the people of the north.”

²⁵The Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, says: “Behold, I will bring punishment on ^[j]Amon of ^(AN)No,^[k] and Pharaoh and Egypt, ^(AO)with their gods and their kings—Pharaoh and those who ^(AP)trust in him. ²⁶^(AQ)And I will deliver them into the hand of those who seek their lives, into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and the hand of his servants. ^(AR)Afterward it shall be inhabited as in the days of old,” says the Lord.

God Will Preserve Israel^(AS)

²⁷“But^(AT) do not fear, O My servant Jacob,
And do not be dismayed, O Israel!
For behold, I will ^(AU)save you from afar,
And your offspring from the land of their captivity;
Jacob shall return, have rest and be at ease;
No one shall make him afraid.
²⁸Do not fear, O Jacob My servant,” says the Lord,
“For I am with you;
For I will make a complete end of all the nations
To which I have driven you,
But I will not make ^(AV)a complete end of you.
I will rightly ^(AW)correct you,
For I will not leave you wholly unpunished.”

Judgment on Philistia

47 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet ^(AX)against the Philistines, ^(AY)before Pharaoh attacked Gaza.

²Thus says the Lord:

“Behold, ^(AZ)waters rise ^(BA)out of the north,
And shall be an overflowing flood;
They shall overflow the land and all that is in it,
The city and those who dwell within;
Then the men shall cry,
And all the inhabitants of the land shall wail.
³At the ^(BB)noise of the stamping hooves of his strong horses,
At the rushing of his chariots,
At the rumbling of his wheels,
The fathers will not look back for their children,
^[l]Lacking courage,
⁴Because of the day that comes to plunder all the ^(BC)Philistines,
To cut off from ^(BD)Tyre and Sidon every helper who remains;
For the Lord shall plunder the Philistines,
^(BE)The remnant of the country of ^(BF)Caphtor.^[m]
⁵^(BG)Baldness has come upon Gaza,
^(BH)Ashkelon is cut off
With the remnant of their valley.
How long will you cut yourself?

⁶“O you ^(BI)sword of the Lord,
How long until you are quiet?
Put yourself up into your scabbard,
Rest and be still!
⁷How can ^[n]it be quiet,
Seeing the Lord has ^(BJ)given it a charge
Against Ashkelon and against the seashore?
There He has ^(BK)appointed it.”

The Eternal Faithfulness of the Lord^(A)

105 Oh, ^(B)give thanks to the Lord!
Call upon His name;
^(C)Make known His deeds among the peoples!
²Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him;
^(D)Talk of all His wondrous works!
³Glory in His holy name;
Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord!
⁴Seek the Lord and His strength;
^(E)Seek His face evermore!
⁵^(F)Remember His marvelous works which He has done,
His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth,
⁶O seed of Abraham His servant,
You children of Jacob, His chosen ones!

⁷He is the Lord our God;
^(G)His judgments are in all the earth.
⁸He ^(H)remembers His covenant forever,
The word which He commanded, for a thousand generations,
⁹^(I)The covenant which He made with Abraham,
And His oath to Isaac,
¹⁰And confirmed it to Jacob for a statute,
To Israel as an everlasting covenant,

And fire to give light in the night.

And ^(AO)satisfied them with the bread of heaven.

It ran in the dry places like a river.

⁴²For He remembered ^(AQ)His holy promise,
And Abraham His servant.
⁴³He brought out His people with joy,

And they inherited the labor of the nations,

And keep His laws.

Breakfast by the Sea

21 After these things Jesus showed Himself again to the disciples at the ^(A)Sea of Tiberias, and in this way He showed Himself: ²Simon Peter, ^(B)Thomas called the Twin, ^(C)Nathanael of ^(D)Cana in Galilee, ^(E)the sons of Zebedee, and two others of His disciples were together. ³Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.”

They said to him, “We are going with you also.” They went out and ^[a]immediately got into the boat, and that night they caught nothing. ⁴But when the morning had now come, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples ^(F)did not know that it was Jesus. ⁵Then ^(G)Jesus said to them, “Children, have you any food?”

They answered Him, “No.”

⁶And He said to them, ^(H)“Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast, and now they were not able to draw it in because of the multitude of fish.

⁷Therefore ^(I)that disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment (for he had removed it), and plunged into the sea. ⁸But the other disciples came in the little boat (for they were not far from land, but about two hundred cubits), dragging the net with fish. ⁹Then, as soon as they had come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid on it, and bread. ¹⁰Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish which you have just caught.”

¹¹Simon Peter went up and dragged the net to land, full of large fish, one hundred and fifty-three; and although there were so many, the net was not broken. ¹²Jesus said to them, ^(J)“Come and eat breakfast.” Yet none of the disciples dared ask Him, “Who are You?”—knowing that it was the Lord. ¹³Jesus then came and took the bread and gave it to them, and likewise the fish.

¹⁴This is now ^(K)the third time Jesus showed Himself to His disciples after He was raised from the dead.

Jesus Restores Peter

¹⁵So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of ^[b]Jonah, do you love Me more than these?”

He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I ^[c]love You.”

He said to him, ^(L)“Feed My lambs.”

¹⁶He said to him again a second time, “Simon, son of ^[d]Jonah, do you love Me?”

He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I ^[e]love You.”

^(M)He said to him, “Tend My ^(N)sheep.”

¹⁷He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of ^[f]Jonah, do you ^[g]love Me?” Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?”

And he said to Him, “Lord, ^(O)You know all things; You know that I love You.”

Jesus said to him, “Feed My sheep. ¹⁸^(P)Most assuredly, I say to you, when you were younger, you girded yourself and walked where you wished; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish.” ¹⁹This He spoke, signifying ^(Q)by what death he would glorify God. And when He had spoken this, He said to him, ^(R)“Follow Me.”

The Beloved Disciple and His Book

²⁰Then Peter, turning around, saw the disciple ^(S)whom Jesus loved following, ^(T)who also had leaned on His breast at the supper, and said, “Lord, who is the one who betrays You?” ²¹Peter, seeing him, said to Jesus, “But Lord, what about this man?”

²²Jesus said to him, “If I ^[h]will that he remain ^(U)till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me.”

²³Then this saying went out among the brethren that this disciple would not die. Yet Jesus did not say to him that he would not die, but, “If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you?”

²⁴This is the disciple who ^(V)testifies of these things, and wrote these things; and we know that his testimony is true.

²⁵^(W)And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, ^(X)I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. Amen.
