I heard another voice from heaven, saying, “(A)Come out of her, my people, so that you will not participate in her sins and receive any of her plagues; for her sins have [a](B)piled up as high as heaven, and God has (C)remembered her offenses. (D)Pay her back even as she has paid, and [b]give back to her double according to her deeds; in the (E)cup which she has mixed, mix twice as much for her. (F)To the extent that she glorified herself and (G)lived luxuriously, to the same extent give her torment and mourning; for she says in her heart, ‘(H)I sit as a queen and I am not a widow, and will never see mourning.’ For this reason (I)in one day her plagues will come, [c]plague and mourning and famine, and she will be (J)burned up with fire; for the Lord God who judges her (K)is strong.

Grief over Babylon

“And (L)the kings of the earth, who committed acts of sexual immorality and (M)lived luxuriously with her, will (N)weep and mourn over her when they (O)see the smoke of her burning, 10 (P)standing at a distance because of the fear of her torment, saying, ‘(Q)Woe, woe, (R)the great city, Babylon, the strong city! For in (S)one hour your judgment has come.’

Warning to Escape Babylon’s Judgment

Then I heard another voice from heaven say:

“‘Come out of her, my people,’[a](A)
so that you will not share in her sins,
so that you will not receive any of her plagues;(B)
for her sins are piled up to heaven,(C)
and God has remembered(D) her crimes.
Give back to her as she has given;
pay her back(E) double(F) for what she has done.
Pour her a double portion from her own cup.(G)
Give her as much torment and grief
as the glory and luxury she gave herself.(H)
In her heart she boasts,
    ‘I sit enthroned as queen.
I am not a widow;[b]
    I will never mourn.’(I)
Therefore in one day(J) her plagues will overtake her:
    death, mourning and famine.
She will be consumed by fire,(K)
for mighty is the Lord God who judges her.

Threefold Woe Over Babylon’s Fall

“When the kings of the earth who committed adultery with her(L) and shared her luxury(M) see the smoke of her burning,(N) they will weep and mourn over her.(O) 10 Terrified at her torment, they will stand far off(P) and cry:

“‘Woe! Woe to you, great city,(Q)
    you mighty city of Babylon!
In one hour(R) your doom has come!’

11 “The merchants(S) of the earth will weep and mourn(T) over her because no one buys their cargoes anymore(U)
