Vision of the Measuring Line

Then I raised my eyes and looked, and behold, (A)a man with a measuring line in his hand. So I said, “Where are you going?”

And he said to me, (B)“To measure Jerusalem, to see what is its width and what is its length.”

And there was the angel who talked with me, going out; and another angel was coming out to meet him, who said to him, “Run, speak to this young man, saying: (C)‘Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls, because of the multitude of men and livestock in it. For I,’ says the Lord, ‘will be (D)a wall of fire all around her, (E)and I will be the glory in her midst.’ ”

Future Joy of Zion and Many Nations

“Up, up! Flee (F)from the land of the north,” says the Lord; “for I have (G)spread you abroad like the four winds of heaven,” says the Lord. “Up, Zion! (H)Escape, you who dwell with the daughter of Babylon.”

For thus says the Lord of hosts: “He sent Me after glory, to the nations which plunder you; for he who (I)touches you touches the [a]apple of His eye. For surely I will (J)shake My hand against them, and they shall become [b]spoil for their servants. Then (K)you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent Me.

10 (L)“Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion! For behold, I am coming and I (M)will dwell in your midst,” says the Lord. 11 (N)“Many nations shall be joined to the Lord (O)in that day, and they shall become (P)My people. And I will dwell in your midst. Then (Q)you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent Me to you. 12 And the Lord will (R)take possession of Judah as His inheritance in the Holy Land, and will again choose Jerusalem. 13 (S)Be silent, all flesh, before the Lord, for He is aroused (T)from His holy habitation!”

God’s Favor to Zion

[a]Then I raised my eyes and looked, and behold, there was a man with a (A)measuring line in his hand. So I said, “Where are you going?” And he said to me, “To (B)measure Jerusalem, to see how wide it is and how long it is.” And behold, the (C)angel who had been speaking with me was going out, and another angel was going out to meet him. And he said to him, “Run, speak to that (D)young man there, saying, ‘(E)Jerusalem will be inhabited (F)as open country because of the (G)multitude of people and cattle within it. But I,’ declares the Lord, ‘will be a (H)wall of fire to her on all sides, and I will be the (I)glory in her midst.’”

[b]You there! (J)Flee from the land of the north,” declares the Lord, “because I have (K)spread you out like the four winds of the heavens,” declares the Lord. [c]You, Zion! (L)Escape, you who are living with the daughter of Babylon.” For the Lord of armies says this: “After (M)glory He has sent me against the nations that plunder you, for the one who touches you, touches the [d](N)apple of His eye. For behold, I am going to (O)wave My hand over them so that they will be (P)plunder for their slaves. Then you will know that the Lord of armies has sent Me. 10 (Q)Shout for joy and rejoice, daughter of Zion; for behold I am coming and I will (R)dwell in your midst,” declares the Lord. 11 “And (S)many nations will join themselves to the Lord on that day and will become My people. Then I will (T)dwell in your midst, and you will (U)know that the Lord of armies has sent Me to you. 12 And the Lord will [e](V)possess Judah as His portion in the holy land, and will again (W)choose Jerusalem.

13 [f](X)Be silent, all [g]mankind, before the Lord; for He has (Y)roused Himself from His holy dwelling.”

[a]Hear this! Flee from [Babylon] the land of the north [which shall come under judgment],” declares the Lord, “for I have scattered you like the four winds of the heavens,” declares the Lord. “Hear, Zion (Jerusalem)! I lifted up mine eyes again, and looked, and behold a man with a measuring line in his hand.

Then said I, Whither goest thou? And he said unto me, To measure Jerusalem, to see what is the breadth thereof, and what is the length thereof.

And, behold, the angel that talked with me went forth, and another angel went out to meet him,

And said unto him, Run, speak to this young man, saying, Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls for the multitude of men and cattle therein:

For I, saith the Lord, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her.

Ho, ho, come forth, and flee from the land of the north, saith the Lord: for I have spread you abroad as the four winds of the heaven, saith the Lord.

Deliver thyself, O Zion, that dwellest with the daughter of Babylon.

For thus saith the Lord of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye.

For, behold, I will shake mine hand upon them, and they shall be a spoil to their servants: and ye shall know that the Lord of hosts hath sent me.

10 Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion: for, lo, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, saith the Lord.

11 And many nations shall be joined to the Lord in that day, and shall be my people: and I will dwell in the midst of thee, and thou shalt know that the Lord of hosts hath sent me unto thee.

12 And the Lord shall inherit Judah his portion in the holy land, and shall choose Jerusalem again.

13 Be silent, O all flesh, before the Lord: for he is raised up out of his holy habitation.
