  1. But one son of Ahimelek son of Ahitub, named Abiathar, escaped and fled to join David.
  2. Then David said to Abiathar, “That day, when Doeg the Edomite was there, I knew he would be sure to tell Saul. I am responsible for the death of your whole family.

  9. So Zadok and Abiathar took the ark of God back to Jerusalem and stayed there.
  10. Won’t the priests Zadok and Abiathar be there with you? Tell them anything you hear in the king’s palace.

  19. King Solomon answered his mother, “Why do you request Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? You might as well request the kingdom for him—after all, he is my older brother—yes, for him and for Abiathar the priest and Joab son of Zeruiah!”
  20. To Abiathar the priest the king said, “Go back to your fields in Anathoth. You deserve to die, but I will not put you to death now, because you carried the ark of the Sovereign Lord before my father David and shared all my father’s hardships.”
  21. So Solomon removed Abiathar from the priesthood of the Lord, fulfilling the word the Lord had spoken at Shiloh about the house of Eli.
  22. The king put Benaiah son of Jehoiada over the army in Joab’s position and replaced Abiathar with Zadok the priest.
  23. Benaiah son of Jehoiada—commander in chief; Zadok and Abiathar—priests;
  24. Then David summoned Zadok and Abiathar the priests, and Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel and Amminadab the Levites.
