¹⁸ And some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers as well were ^[a]conversing with him. Some were saying, “What could ^(A)this ^[b]scavenger of tidbits want to say?” Others, “He seems to be a proclaimer of strange deities,”—because he was preaching ^(B)Jesus and the resurrection.

²⁴ While ^[a]Paul was stating these things in his defense, Festus *said in a loud voice, “Paul, you are out of your mind! ^[b]Your great ^(A)learning is ^[c]driving you insane.”

¹⁸ For the word of the cross is ^(A)foolishness to ^(B)those who ^[a]are perishing, but to us who ^[b]are being saved it is ^(C)the power of God.
