9 One of these, growing slowly at first, soon became very strong and attacked the south and east, and warred against the land of Israel.[a] 10 He fought against the people of God and defeated some of their leaders.[b] 11 He even challenged the Commander[c] of the army of heaven by canceling the daily sacrifices offered to him and by defiling his Temple.

9 Out of one of them came another horn, which started small(A) but grew in power to the south and to the east and toward the Beautiful Land.(B) 10 It grew until it reached(C) the host of the heavens, and it threw some of the starry host down to the earth(D) and trampled(E) on them. 11 It set itself up to be as great as the commander(F) of the army of the Lord;(G) it took away the daily sacrifice(H) from the Lord, and his sanctuary was thrown down.(I)
