² The entire Israelite community grumbled^(A) against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness.

⁷ in the morning you will see the Lord’s glory because He has heard your complaints about Him. For who are we that you complain about us?”^{(A) 8} Moses continued, “The Lord will give you meat to eat this evening and more than enough bread in the morning, for He has heard the complaints that you are raising against Him. Who are we? Your complaints are not against us but against the Lord.”^(B)

³ But the people thirsted there for water, and grumbled against Moses. They said, “Why did you ever bring us out of Egypt to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?”^(A)

²⁷ “How long must I endure this evil community that keeps complaining about Me? I have heard the Israelites’ complaints that they make against Me.^(A)

⁶ So Moses spoke to the Israelites, and each of their leaders gave him a staff, one for each of the leaders of their ancestral houses, 12 staffs in all. Aaron’s staff was among them.

¹⁰ Nor should we complain^(A) as some of them did,^[a](B) and were killed by the destroyer.^[b](C)
