¹⁷ Therefore, in all things He ^[a]had ^(A)to be made like His brothers so that He might ^(B)become a merciful and faithful ^(C)high priest in ^(D)things pertaining to God, to ^(E)make ^[b]propitiation for the sins of the people.

¹⁴ Therefore, since we have a great ^(A)high priest who has ^(B)passed through the heavens, Jesus ^(C)the Son of God, let’s hold firmly to our ^(D)confession. ¹⁵ For we do not have ^(E)a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been ^(F)tempted in all things just as we are, yet ^(G)without sin. ¹⁶ Therefore let’s ^(H)approach the throne of grace with ^(I)confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace for help at the time of our need.

⁵ So too Christ ^(A)did not glorify Himself in becoming a ^(B)high priest, but it was He who ^(C)said to Him,

¹⁰ being designated by God as ^(A)High Priest according to ^(B)the order of Melchizedek.

^20 (A)where Jesus has entered as a forerunner for us, having become a ^(B)high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.

²⁶ For it was fitting for us to have such a ^(A)high priest, ^(B)holy, ^(C)innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, and ^(D)exalted above the heavens;

²⁸ For the Law appoints men as high priests ^(A)who are weak, but the word of the oath, which came after the Law, appoints ^(B)a Son, who has been ^(C)made perfect forever.

A Better Ministry

8 Now the main point in what has been said is this: we have such a ^(A)high priest, who has taken His seat at ^(B)the right hand of the throne of the ^(C)Majesty in the heavens,

³ For every ^(A)high priest is appointed ^(B)to offer both gifts and sacrifices; so it is necessary that this high priest also have something to offer.
