² At that time the army of the king of Babylon was besieging Jerusalem, and Jeremiah the prophet ^(A)was shut up in ^(B)the court of the guard that was in the palace of the king of Judah.

The Lord Promises Peace

33 The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah a second time, while he was still ^(A)shut up in the court of the guard:

²¹ So King Zedekiah gave orders, and they committed Jeremiah to ^(A)the court of the guard. And a loaf of bread was given him daily from the bakers' street, ^(B)until all the bread of the city was gone. So Jeremiah remained in ^(C)the court of the guard.

⁶ So they took Jeremiah ^(A)and cast him into the cistern of Malchiah, the king's son, which was in ^(B)the court of the guard, letting Jeremiah down ^(C)by ropes. ^(D)And there was no water in the cistern, but only mud, and ^(E)Jeremiah sank in the mud.

¹³ Then they drew Jeremiah up with ^(A)ropes and lifted him out of the cistern. And Jeremiah remained in the ^(B)court of the guard.

²⁸ And Jeremiah remained ^(A)in the court of the guard until the day that Jerusalem was taken.

¹⁴ sent and took Jeremiah from ^(A)the court of the guard. They entrusted him to ^(B)Gedaliah the son of ^(C)Ahikam, son of ^(D)Shaphan, that he should take him home. So ^(E)he lived among the people.

³⁹ and above ^(A)the Gate of Ephraim, and by ^(B)the Gate of Yeshanah,^[a] and by ^(C)the Fish Gate and ^(D)the Tower of Hananel and ^(E)the Tower of the Hundred, to ^(F)the Sheep Gate; and they came to a halt at ^(G)the Gate of the Guard.
