⁴⁴ How can you believe? While accepting glory from one another, you don’t seek the glory that comes from the only^(A) God.^(B)

⁴³ For they loved praise from men^(A) more than praise from God.^[a](B)

⁵ Therefore don’t judge^(A) anything prematurely, before the Lord comes,^(B) who will both bring to light what is hidden in darkness and reveal the intentions of the hearts. And then praise will come to each one from God.^(C)

¹⁸ For it is not the one commending himself who is approved, but the one the Lord commends.^(A)

¹⁰ For am I now trying to win the favor of people, or God?^(A) Or am I striving to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a slave of Christ.

¹⁹ Their end is destruction; their god is their stomach; their glory^(A) is in their shame. They are focused on earthly things,

¹⁵ who killed both the Lord Jesus^(A) and the prophets and persecuted us;^(B) they displease God and are hostile to everyone,

⁴ Instead, it should consist of what is inside^[a] the heart^(A) with the imperishable quality of a gentle^(B) and quiet^(C) spirit, which is very valuable in God’s eyes.
