^14 (A)So the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he ^(B)gave them over to plunderers, who plundered them. ^(C)And he sold them into the hand of their surrounding enemies, ^(D)so that they could no longer withstand their enemies. ¹⁵ Whenever they marched out, the hand of the Lord was against them for harm, as the Lord had warned, ^(E)and as the Lord had sworn to them. And they were in terrible distress.

The Lord Raises Up Judges

^16 (F)Then the Lord raised up judges, ^(G)who saved them out of the hand of those who plundered them.

⁹ But ^(A)they forgot the Lord their God. ^(B)And he sold them into the hand of Sisera, commander of the army of Hazor,^{[a] (C)}and into the hand of the Philistines, ^(D)and into the hand of the king of Moab. And they fought against them. ^10 (E)And they cried out to the Lord and said, ‘We have sinned, because we have forsaken the Lord ^(F)and have served the Baals and the Ashtaroth. But now ^(G)deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, that we may serve you.’ ¹¹ And the Lord sent ^(H)Jerubbaal ^(I)and Barak^{[b] (J)}and Jephthah and ^(K)Samuel and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side, and you lived in safety.
