¹² If he does not relent,^(A)
    he^[a] will sharpen his sword;^(B)
    he will bend and string his bow.^(C)

³ Gird your sword^(A) on your side, you mighty one;^(B)
    clothe yourself with splendor and majesty.^(C)

the Lord will punish with his sword^(B)—
    his fierce, great and powerful sword—
Leviathan^(C) the gliding serpent,^(D)
    Leviathan the coiling serpent;
he will slay the monster^(E) of the sea.

⁶ The sword^(A) of the Lord is bathed in blood,
    it is covered with fat—
the blood of lambs and goats,
    fat from the kidneys of rams.
For the Lord has a sacrifice^(B) in Bozrah^(C)
    and a great slaughter^(D) in the land of Edom.

¹⁶ For with fire^(A) and with his sword^(B)
    the Lord will execute judgment^(C) on all people,
    and many will be those slain^(D) by the Lord.

¹² Over all the barren heights in the desert
    destroyers will swarm,
for the sword^(A) of the Lord^(B) will devour^(C)
    from one end of the land to the other;^(D)
    no one will be safe.^(E)

“‘A sword, a sword,
    sharpened and polished—
¹⁰ sharpened for the slaughter,^(A)
    polished to flash like lightning!
