The Signs of the Times and the End of the Age^(A)

³Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, ^(B)Peter, ^(C)James, ^(D)John, and ^(E)Andrew asked Him privately, ⁴^(F)“Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign when all these things will be fulfilled?”

⁵And Jesus, answering them, began to say: ^(G)“Take heed that no one deceives you. ⁶For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am He,’ and will deceive many. ⁷But when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be troubled; for such things must happen, but the end is not yet. ⁸For nation will rise against nation, and ^(H)kingdom against kingdom. And there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines ^[a]and troubles. ^(I)These are the beginnings of ^[b]sorrows.

⁹“But ^(J)watch out for yourselves, for they will deliver you up to councils, and you will be beaten in the synagogues. You will ^[c]be brought before rulers and kings for My sake, for a testimony to them. ¹⁰And ^(K)the gospel must first be preached to all the nations. ¹¹^(L)But when they arrest you and deliver you up, do not worry beforehand, ^[d]or premeditate what you will speak. But whatever is given you in that hour, speak that; for it is not you who speak, ^(M)but the Holy Spirit. ¹²Now ^(N)brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death. ¹³^(O)And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But ^(P)he who ^[e]endures to the end shall be saved.

⁷So they asked Him, saying, “Teacher, but when will these things be? And what sign will there be when these things are about to take place?”

⁸And He said: ^(B)“Take heed that you not be deceived. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am He,’ and, ‘The time has drawn near.’ ^[a]Therefore do not ^[b]go after them. ⁹But when you hear of ^(C)wars and commotions, do not be terrified; for these things must come to pass first, but the end will not come immediately.”

¹⁰^(D)Then He said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. ¹¹And there will be great ^(E)earthquakes in various places, and famines and pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven. ¹²^(F)But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and ^(G)prisons. ^(H)You will be brought before kings and rulers ^(I)for My name’s sake. ¹³But ^(J)it will turn out for you as an occasion for testimony. ¹⁴^(K)Therefore settle it in your hearts not to meditate beforehand on what you will ^[c]answer; ¹⁵for I will give you a mouth and wisdom ^(L)which all your adversaries will not be able to contradict or ^[d]resist. ¹⁶^(M)You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, relatives and friends; and they will put ^(N)some of you to death. ¹⁷And ^(O)you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. ¹⁸^(P)But not a hair of your head shall be lost. ¹⁹By your patience possess your souls.
