¹⁷ and if children, also heirs^(A)—heirs of God and coheirs with Christ—seeing that^[a] we suffer with Him^(B) so that we may also be glorified with Him.

⁵ For as the sufferings^(A) of Christ^(B) overflow to us, so through Christ our comfort also overflows.^{(C) 6} If we are afflicted,^(D) it is for your comfort and salvation. If we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which is experienced in your endurance of the same sufferings that we suffer.^{(E) 7} And our hope^(F) for you is firm, because we know that as you share^(G) in the sufferings, so you will share in the comfort.

Paul’s Ministry

²⁴ Now I rejoice in my sufferings^(A) for you, and I am completing in my flesh what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for His body,^(B) that is, the church.

¹³ Instead, rejoice as you share in the sufferings of the Messiah,^(A) so that you may also rejoice with great joy at the revelation^(B) of His glory.

About the Elders

5 Therefore, as a fellow elder and witness^(A) to the sufferings of the Messiah and also a participant in the glory about to be revealed,^(B) I exhort the elders among you:

⁹ Resist him^(A) and be firm in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are being experienced by your fellow believers throughout the world.
