Learn How the Bible Works

The Bible is a collection of individual books written under inspiration of the Holy Spirit over 1,600 years by about 40 diverse authors whose occupations included royalty, government administration, military, shepherding, fishing, and farming. The books include many styles of literature, extensive historical lineages, and were originally written in several different languages. If that seems overwhelming, don’t worry — we’re here to help!

The Bible contemplates many controversial subjects, like the origin of the universe, the purpose of life, and humanity’s destiny. Yet the cohesion between the books and agreement about these subjects remarkably form one grand narrative: that God, in his love, offers salvation from sin to everyone who believes in the sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The books of the New Testament were originally written in the koine — or “common” — dialect of Greek. The books of the Old Testament were written mostly in Hebrew; some included Aramaic. Today they’re translated into a plethora of languages.
