⁵³ And they did not receive Him, ^(A)because ^[a]He was traveling toward Jerusalem. ⁵⁴ When His disciples ^(B)James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do You want us to ^(C)command fire to come down from heaven and consume them?” ⁵⁵ But He turned and rebuked them.^[b]

³⁷ But make sure your statement is, ‘^[a]Yes, yes’ or ‘No, no’; anything beyond these is ^[b]of ^(A)evil origin.

²³ But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, ^(A)Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me; for you are not setting your mind on ^[a]God’s purposes, but men’s.”

² in which you ^(A)previously walked according to the ^[a]course of ^(B)this world, according to ^(C)the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in ^(D)the ^[b]sons of disobedience. ³ Among them ^[c]we too all ^(E)previously lived in ^(F)the lusts of our flesh, ^[d]indulging the desires of the flesh and of the ^[e]mind, and were ^(G)by nature ^(H)children of wrath, ^(I)just as the rest.

⁸ the one who practices sin is ^(A)of the devil; for the devil ^[a]has been sinning from the beginning. ^(B)The Son of God ^(C)appeared for this purpose, ^(D)to destroy the works of the devil.

^17 (A)rescuing you ^(B)from the Jewish people and from the Gentiles, to whom I am sending you, ¹⁸ to ^(C)open their eyes so that they may turn from ^(D)darkness to light, and from the ^[a]power of ^(E)Satan to God, that they may receive ^(F)forgiveness of sins and an ^(G)inheritance among those who have been sanctified by ^(H)faith in Me.’
