The Conclusion of the Matter

⁹ Not only was the Teacher wise, but he also imparted knowledge to the people. He pondered and searched out and set in order many proverbs.^{(A) 10} The Teacher^(B) searched to find just the right words, and what he wrote was upright and true.^(C)

¹¹ The words of the wise are like goads, their collected sayings like firmly embedded nails^(D)—given by one shepherd.^{[a] 12} Be warned, my son, of anything in addition to them.

Of making many books there is no end, and much study wearies the body.^(E)

²⁶ “So do not be afraid of them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known.^{(A) 27} What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs. ²⁸ Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One^(B) who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

³⁶ But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. ³⁷ For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”^(A)
