یسوع سے ملنے کیلئے مذہبی پیشواؤں کی آمد
2 ہیرودیس بادشاہ کےزمانے میں یسوع یہوداہ کے بیت اللحم گاؤں میں پیدا ہوا۔یسوع کی پیدائش کے بعد مشرقی ممالک کے چند عالم یروشلم آئے۔
2 ان عالموں نے لوگوں سے پوچھا کہاں ہے “یہودیوں کا بادشاہ جو یہاں پیدا ہوا ہے ؟ اس کی پیدائش بتا نے والا ایک ستارہ مشرق میں طلوع ہوا ہے جس کو دیکھ کر ہم اس کو سجدہ کرنے کے لئے آئےہیں۔”
3 جب ہیرودیس [a] اور یروشلم کے تمام لوگوں کو یہودیوں کے نئے بادشاہ کے بارے میں معلوم ہوا تو پریشان ہو گئے۔ 4 ہیرودیس نے فورًاتمام یہودی کاہنوں کے رہنما اور معلمین شریعت کو جمع کیا ،اور ان سے دریافت کیا کہ یسوع کے پیدا ہونے کی جگہ کونسی ہے؟ 5 انہوں نے کہا، “وہ یہوداہ کے بیت اللحم شہر میں پیدا ہوگا۔کیوں کہ نبی نے صحیفوں میں اسی طرح لکھا ہے۔
6 اے بیت اللحم، یہوداہ کے علاقہ میں، یہوداہ پر
حکمرانی کرنے والوں میں تو ہی اہم ہے
اور ہاں ایک حکمراں تجھ سے آئیگا اور
وہی حکمراں میرے لوگ بنی اسرائیلیوں پر حکمرانی کریگا۔” [b]
7 تب ہیرودیس نے خفیہ طور پر مشرقی ممالک کے مذہبی عالموں کو بلایا اور ان سے دریافت کیا کہ اس نے اس ستارے کوصحیح طور پر کس وقت پر دیکھا۔ 8 ہیرودیس نے ان مذہبی عالموں سے کہا، “تم سب جاؤ اور ہوشیاری سے ڈھونڈو کہ وہ بچّہ کہاں ہے پھر بچّہ ملے تو آ کر مجھے بتاؤ تا کہ میں بھی جا کر اس کو سجدہ کروں۔”
9 وہ مذہبی علماءبادشاہ کی بات سن کر جب وہاں سے نکلے، انہوں نے مشرق میں طلوع شدہ اس ستارے کو دیکھا۔ اور وہ لوگ اس ستارے کے پیچھے ہو لئے اور وہ ستارہ ان کے سامنے چلا اور اس جگہ پر جا کر ٹھہر گیا جہاں پر وہ بچّہ تھا۔ 10 وہ اس ستارے کو دیکھ کر بے حد خوش ہوئے۔
11 جب وہ لوگ اس گھر میں آئے اور بچہ کو اپنی ماں مریم کے پاس پایا تو اسکے سامنے گر کر سجدہ کیا ،اور اپنے قیمتی تحفے کھول کر اس میں سے سونا، لبان اور مُر اس کو نذر کیا۔ 12 لیکن خدا نے ان مذہبی عالموں کو خواب میں ہدایت دی کہ تم ہیرو دیس کے پاس دوبارہ نہ جاؤ۔ لیکن وہ عالم دوسری راہ سے اپنے ملک کو گئے۔
یسوع کے ماں باپ اس کو مصر لے گئے
13 مذہبی عالموں کے چلے جانے کے بعد خداوند کا فرشتہ یوسف کو خواب میں نظرآیااور کہا ، “اٹھ جا اس بچے کو اور اس کی ماں کو ساتھ لیکر مصر کو بھاگ جا۔کیونکہ ہیرودیس اس بچے کی تلاش میں ہے کہ اس کو مار ڈالے۔اورجب تک میں نہ کہوں تو مصر ہی میں آرام سے رہنا۔”
14 اس کے فورًا بعد یوسف اٹھا بچہ اور اسکی ماں کو ساتھ لیکر رات کے وقت میں مصر کو چلا گیا۔ 15 ہیرودیس کے مرنے تک یوسف مصر ہی میں رہا خدا وند کہتا ہے، “میں نے اپنے بیٹے کو مصر سے بلایا” [c] “نبی کی معرفت خدا کی کہی ہوئی یہ بات پوری ہوئی۔
بیت ا للحم میں ننھے بچّوں کا قتل عام
16 ہیرودیس کو جب یہ معلوم ہوا کہ عالموں نے اسے بیوقوف بنایا ہے تو وہ بہت غضبناک ہوا۔حالانکہ اس بچے کے پیدا ہونے کا وقت ہیرودیس نے ان عالموں سے جان لیا تھا۔اور اب اس بچے کو پیدا ہوئے دو سال گزر گئے تھے۔اس وجہ سے ہیرودیس نے بیت اللحم اور اسکے اطراف میں دو سال کی کم عمر کے تمام ننھّے بچوں کو قتل کرنے کا حکم دیا۔ 17 اس طرح یرمیاہ نبی کے ذریعہ خدا کی کہی ہوئی یہ بات پوری ہوئی۔
18 “رامہ میں ماتم اور زار و قطاررونا سنائی دیا
وہ بہت رونے اور غم و اندوہ کی آواز تھی۔
راخل اپنے بچوں کے لئے رو رہی تھی
ان کے مرجانے کی وجہ سے انکو تسلی نہ دے سکا۔” [d]
یوسف اور مریم کا مصر سے واپس آنا
19 ہیرودیس کے مرنے کے بعد خداوند کا فرشتہ یوسف کو خواب میں پھر نظر آیا۔اور یوسف کے مصر میں رہنے کے وقت ہی یہ بات پیش آئی تھی۔ 20 فرشتہ نے اس سے کہا، “اٹھ جا بچہ کو اور اسکی ماں کو ساتھ لیکر اسرائیل کو چلا جا۔ اور کہا کہ بچہ کو قتل کرنےکی کوشش کرنے والے اب مرگئے ہیں۔”
21 تب یوسف اٹھا اور بچہ کو اور اسکی ماں کو ساتھ لیکر اسرائیل کو چلا گیا۔ 22 لیکن اسکو معلوم ہوا کہ ہیرودیس کے مرجا نے کے بعد اس کا بیٹا ار خلاؤس،یہوداہ کا بادشاہ بن گیا ہے۔تو وہ وہاں جا نے سے ڈر گیا اور خواب میں دی گئی ہدایت کی بنا پر وہ اس جگہ کوچھوڑ کر گلیل کے علاقے کو چلا گیا۔ 23 ناصرت نامی مقام پر جا کر مقیم ہو گیا۔ اسلئے مسیح ناصری [e] کہلایا۔اس طرح جو کچھ نبیوں نے کہا تھا وہ پورا ہوا۔

The Magi Visit the Messiah
2 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea,(A) during the time of King Herod,(B) Magi[a] from the east came to Jerusalem 2 and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews?(C) We saw his star(D) when it rose and have come to worship him.”
3 When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. 5 “In Bethlehem(E) in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written:
6 “‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,
are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;
for out of you will come a ruler
who will shepherd my people Israel.’[b]”(F)
7 Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. 8 He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.”
9 After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. 10 When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him.(G) Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts(H) of gold, frankincense and myrrh. 12 And having been warned(I) in a dream(J) not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.
The Escape to Egypt
13 When they had gone, an angel(K) of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream.(L) “Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.”(M)
14 So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, 15 where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled(N) what the Lord had said through the prophet: “Out of Egypt I called my son.”[c](O)
16 When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi. 17 Then what was said through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled:(P)
18 “A voice is heard in Ramah,
weeping and great mourning,
Rachel(Q) weeping for her children
and refusing to be comforted,
because they are no more.”[d](R)
The Return to Nazareth
19 After Herod died, an angel(S) of the Lord appeared in a dream(T) to Joseph in Egypt 20 and said, “Get up, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who were trying to take the child’s life are dead.”(U)
21 So he got up, took the child and his mother and went to the land of Israel. 22 But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning in Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. Having been warned in a dream,(V) he withdrew to the district of Galilee,(W) 23 and he went and lived in a town called Nazareth.(X) So was fulfilled(Y) what was said through the prophets, that he would be called a Nazarene.(Z)

2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
3 When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.
5 And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,
6 And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.
7 Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.
8 And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.
9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh.
12 And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.
13 And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.
14 When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:
15 And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.
16 Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men.
17 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying,
18 In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.
19 But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,
20 Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child's life.
21 And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.
22 But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee:
23 And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.
