19 그래서 욥이 이렇게 대답하였다.
2 “너희가 언제까지 나를 괴롭히고 말로 나를 꺾을 작정이냐?
3 너희가 열 번이나 나를 책망하며 학대하고도 부끄러워하지 않는구나.
4 나에게 정말 잘못이 있다고 해도 그것은 나 혼자만의 문제이다.
5 너희는 나보다 낫다고 생각하며 내가 당하는 어려움이 내 죄의 대가라고 여기고 싶겠지만
6 너희가 먼저 알아야 할 것은 나를 이렇게 하신 분이 하나님이시며 그가 나를 잡기 위해서 덫을 놓았다는 사실이다.
7 “내가 학대를 받고 있다고 부르짖어도 아무런 응답이 없고 도움을 요청하여도 해결해 주는 자가 없구나.
8 하나님이 내 길을 막아 나를 지나가지 못하게 하시며 그 길을 가려 어둡게 하시고
9 또 나의 영광을 빼앗아 가셨으며 내 머리의 면류관을 벗기셨다.
10 그가 사방에서 나를 치시므로 내가 죽게 되었다. 그가 나무 뽑듯이 내 희망을 뿌리째 뽑아 버리시고
11 나를 향해 노하시며 나를 원수같이 여기시고
12 그의 군대를 보내 내 집을 포위하는구나.
13 “하나님이 내 형제들을 내게서 멀리 떠나게 하시므로 나를 아는 자들에게 내가 낯선 사람이 되고 말았다.
14 내 친척들도 나를 저버리고 내 친구들도 모두 나를 잊었다.
15 내 집에 묵고 있는 손님들과 심지어 내 종들까지도 나를 모르는 척하므로 내가 그들에게 외국 사람같이 되고 말았다.
16 내 종을 불러도 대답하지 않으니 내가 사정하는 신세가 되었다.
17 내 아내도 내 입에서 나는 냄새를 맡지 못하고 내 형제들도 내 곁에 가까이 오기를 싫어하며
18 어린 아이들까지 나를 보면 업신여기고 조롱하는구나.
19 나의 제일 가까운 친구들도 나를 싫어하며 내가 사랑하던 사람들도 돌이켜 나의 대적이 되었다.
20 나는 뼈와 가죽만 남아 겨우 목숨만 붙어 있는 신세가 되었구나.
21 내 친구들이여, 나를 좀 불쌍히 여겨다오. 하나님의 손이 나를 치셨다.
22 너희가 어째서 하나님처럼 나를 핍박하느냐? 나를 이처럼 괴롭히고도 아직 마음에 만족함이 없느냐?
23 “누가 내 말을 기억하였다가 책에 기록해 두었으면!
24 누가 철필로 내 말을 돌에 새겨 그것이 영원히 보존되도록 했으면 좋겠구나!
25 내가 알기에는 나를 [a]구하실 분이 살아 계시므로 그가 결국 땅 위에 서실 것이다.
26 내 육체의 가죽이 썩은 후에는 내가 육체 밖에서 하나님을 볼 것이며
27 그 때는 내 눈이 그를 보아도 낯선 사람처럼 하지 않을 것이니 내 마음이 한없이 설레는구나!
28 “너희는 ‘우리가 어떻게 그를 괴롭혀 줄까?’ 하고 나를 칠 구실을 찾겠지만
29 너희는 칼을 두려워해야 한다. 분노는 칼의 형벌을 초래하므로 너희가 심판이 있는 것을 알게 될 것이다.”

19 Then Job replied:
2 “How long will you torment(A) me
and crush(B) me with words?
3 Ten times(C) now you have reproached(D) me;
shamelessly you attack me.
4 If it is true that I have gone astray,
my error(E) remains my concern alone.
5 If indeed you would exalt yourselves above me(F)
and use my humiliation against me,
6 then know that God has wronged me(G)
and drawn his net(H) around me.(I)
7 “Though I cry, ‘Violence!’ I get no response;(J)
though I call for help,(K) there is no justice.(L)
8 He has blocked my way so I cannot pass;(M)
he has shrouded my paths in darkness.(N)
9 He has stripped(O) me of my honor(P)
and removed the crown from my head.(Q)
10 He tears me down(R) on every side till I am gone;
he uproots my hope(S) like a tree.(T)
11 His anger(U) burns against me;
he counts me among his enemies.(V)
12 His troops advance in force;(W)
they build a siege ramp(X) against me
and encamp around my tent.(Y)
13 “He has alienated my family(Z) from me;
my acquaintances are completely estranged from me.(AA)
14 My relatives have gone away;
my closest friends(AB) have forgotten me.
15 My guests(AC) and my female servants(AD) count me a foreigner;
they look on me as on a stranger.
16 I summon my servant, but he does not answer,
though I beg him with my own mouth.
17 My breath is offensive to my wife;
I am loathsome(AE) to my own family.
18 Even the little boys(AF) scorn me;
when I appear, they ridicule me.(AG)
19 All my intimate friends(AH) detest me;(AI)
those I love have turned against me.(AJ)
20 I am nothing but skin and bones;(AK)
I have escaped only by the skin of my teeth.[a]
21 “Have pity on me, my friends,(AL) have pity,
for the hand of God has struck(AM) me.
22 Why do you pursue(AN) me as God does?(AO)
Will you never get enough of my flesh?(AP)
23 “Oh, that my words were recorded,
that they were written on a scroll,(AQ)
24 that they were inscribed with an iron tool(AR) on[b] lead,
or engraved in rock forever!(AS)
25 I know that my redeemer[c](AT) lives,(AU)
and that in the end he will stand on the earth.[d]
26 And after my skin has been destroyed,
yet[e] in[f] my flesh I will see God;(AV)
27 I myself will see him
with my own eyes(AW)—I, and not another.
How my heart yearns(AX) within me!
