24 너는 악인들을 부러워하지 말고 그들과 함께 있는 것을 원하지도 말 아라.
2 악인들은 남을 해칠 일만 생각하고 말썽을 일으킬 말만 한다.
3 집은 지혜를 기초로 지어지고 총명으로 견고하게 되며
4 그 방들은 지식을 통해서 여러 가지 진귀하고 아름다운 보물이 채워진다.
5 지혜 있는 자가 힘 센 자보다 강하고 지식 있는 자가 무력을 쓰는 자보다 강하다.
6 너는 전쟁하기에 앞서 전략을 잘 세워라. 승리는 전술적인 조언을 많이 받는 데 있다.
7 지혜는 미련한 자들이 도달하기에는 너무 높은 수준에 있으므로 [a]중요한 문제가 토론될 때 그들은 아무것도 할 말이 없다.
8 악한 일을 계획하는 사람을 흔히 [b]음모가라고 부른다
9 미련한 자의 책략은 죄이며 거만한 자는 사람들의 미움을 받는다.
10 네가 어려움을 당할 때 낙심하면 너는 정말 약한 자이다.
11 너는 억울하게 죽게 된 사람을 구하며 살인자의 손에 끌려가는 사람을 구출하는 데 주저하지 말아라.
12 너는 알지 못했다는 이유로 네 책임을 회피하지 말아라. 네 마음을 살피시며 너를 지켜 보고 계시는 분이 어찌 그것을 모르겠느냐? 그는 사람이 행한 대로 갚아 주실 것이다.
13 내 아들아, 꿀을 먹어라. 이것이 좋다. 특별히 송이꿀은 더 달다.
14 이와 같이 지혜도 달콤한 것이다. 그러므로 지혜를 얻어라. 분명히 너에게 밝은 미래가 있을 것이며 너의 희망이 끊어지지 않을 것이다.
15 악한 자여, 의로운 사람의 거처를 엿보지 말며 그 집을 약탈하지 말아라.
16 의로운 사람은 일곱 번 넘어져도 다시 일어나지만 악인은 단 한 번의 재앙으로도 쓰러지고 만다.
17 네 원수가 망하는 것을 보고 기뻐하거나 즐거워하지 말아라.
18 여호와께서 그것을 보시고 기뻐하지 않으시며 분노를 그에게서 돌이키실지도 모른다.
19 너는 악한 사람들 때문에 안달하거나 그들을 부러워하지 말아라.
20 악인들에게는 밝은 미래가 없을 것이며 희망의 등불도 꺼질 것이다.
21 내 아들아, 여호와와 왕을 두려워하고 반역자들과 사귀지 말아라.
22 그들은 순식간에 패망할 것이다. 그들에게 내릴 재앙을 누가 알겠는가?
지혜로운 사람들의 교훈
23 이것도 지혜로운 사람의 말이다: 재판할 때 사람 봐 가면서 하는 것은 좋지 못하다.
24 죄 지은 사람에게 무죄를 선언하는 자는 온 세상 사람들에게 저주를 받고 미움을 살 것이지만
25 그를 과감하게 책망하는 사람은 기쁨을 얻고 풍성한 복을 받을 것이다.
26 정직한 대답은 입을 맞추는 것과 같다.
27 너는 네 집을 짓기에 앞서 먼저 생활 기반부터 마련하여라.
28 너는 이유 없이 네 이웃의 거짓 증인이 되어 허위 사실을 진술하지 말아라.
29 그가 너에게 행한 대로 네가 앙갚음을 하겠다고 생각하지 말아라.
30 내가 한때 게으른 자의 밭과 지혜 없는 사람의 포도원을 지나가다가
31 온통 가시덤불이 덮여 있고 잡초가 무성하며 돌담이 무너져 있는 것을 보고
32 깊이 생각하는 중에 이런 교훈을 얻었다.
33 “좀더 자자. 좀더 졸자. 손을 모으고 좀더 쉬자” 하는 자에게는
34 가난이 강도처럼 갑자기 밀어닥치고 빈곤이 군사처럼 몰려올 것이다.

24 Do not envy(A) the wicked,
do not desire their company;
2 for their hearts plot violence,(B)
and their lips talk about making trouble.(C)

3 By wisdom a house is built,(D)
and through understanding it is established;
4 through knowledge its rooms are filled
with rare and beautiful treasures.(E)
Saying 22
5 The wise prevail through great power,
and those who have knowledge muster their strength.
6 Surely you need guidance to wage war,
and victory is won through many advisers.(F)
Saying 23
7 Wisdom is too high for fools;
in the assembly at the gate they must not open their mouths.
Saying 24
8 Whoever plots evil
will be known as a schemer.
9 The schemes of folly are sin,
and people detest a mocker.
Saying 25
10 If you falter in a time of trouble,
how small is your strength!(G)
11 Rescue those being led away to death;
hold back those staggering toward slaughter.(H)
12 If you say, “But we knew nothing about this,”
does not he who weighs(I) the heart perceive it?
Does not he who guards your life know it?
Will he not repay(J) everyone according to what they have done?(K)

13 Eat honey, my son, for it is good;
honey from the comb is sweet to your taste.
14 Know also that wisdom is like honey for you:
If you find it, there is a future hope for you,
and your hope will not be cut off.(L)
Saying 27
15 Do not lurk like a thief near the house of the righteous,
do not plunder their dwelling place;
16 for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again,
but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes.(M)
Saying 28
17 Do not gloat(N) when your enemy falls;
when they stumble, do not let your heart rejoice,(O)
18 or the Lord will see and disapprove
and turn his wrath away from them.(P)
Saying 29
19 Do not fret(Q) because of evildoers
or be envious of the wicked,
20 for the evildoer has no future hope,
and the lamp of the wicked will be snuffed out.(R)
Saying 30
21 Fear the Lord and the king,(S) my son,
and do not join with rebellious officials,
22 for those two will send sudden destruction(T) on them,
and who knows what calamities they can bring?
Further Sayings of the Wise
23 These also are sayings of the wise:(U)
To show partiality(V) in judging is not good:(W)
24 Whoever says to the guilty, “You are innocent,”(X)
will be cursed by peoples and denounced by nations.
25 But it will go well with those who convict the guilty,
and rich blessing will come on them.
26 An honest answer
is like a kiss on the lips.
27 Put your outdoor work in order
and get your fields ready;
after that, build your house.
28 Do not testify against your neighbor without cause(Y)—
would you use your lips to mislead?
29 Do not say, “I’ll do to them as they have done to me;
I’ll pay them back for what they did.”(Z)
30 I went past the field of a sluggard,(AA)
past the vineyard of someone who has no sense;
31 thorns had come up everywhere,
the ground was covered with weeds,
and the stone wall was in ruins.
32 I applied my heart to what I observed
and learned a lesson from what I saw:
33 A little sleep, a little slumber,
a little folding of the hands to rest(AB)—
34 and poverty will come on you like a thief
and scarcity like an armed man.(AC)
