The Musicians

³¹ These are the men David put in charge of the music in the Lord’s temple^(A) after the ark came to rest there.^{(B) 32} They ministered with song in front of the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, until Solomon built the Lord’s temple in Jerusalem, and they performed their task according to the regulations given to them.

⁴¹ With them were Heman,^(A) Jeduthun, and the rest who were chosen and designated by name^(B) to give thanks to the Lord—for his faithful love endures forever.^{(C) 42} Heman and Jeduthun had with them trumpets and cymbals to play and musical instruments of God.^(D) Jeduthun’s sons were at the city gate.

⁴³ Then all the people went home, and David returned home to bless his household.^(E)

The Levitical Musicians

25 David and the officers of the army also set apart some of the sons of Asaph, Heman,^(A) and Jeduthun, who were to prophesy^(B) accompanied by lyres, harps, and cymbals.^(C) This is the list of the men who performed their service:

⁶ All these men were under their own fathers’ authority for the music in the Lord’s temple, with cymbals, harps, and lyres for the service of God’s temple. Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman were under the king’s authority. ⁷ They numbered 288 together with their relatives who were all trained and skillful in music for the Lord.
