11 Now these things happened to them as an (A)example, and (B)they were written for our instruction, upon whom (C)the ends of the ages have come. 12 Therefore let him who (D)thinks he stands take heed that he does not fall. 13 No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and (E)God is faithful, who will not allow you to be (F)tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.

14 Therefore, my (G)beloved, flee from (H)idolatry. 15 I speak as to wise men; you judge what I say. 16 Is not the (I)cup of blessing which we bless a sharing in the blood of Christ? Is not the [a](J)bread which we break a sharing in the body of Christ? 17 Since there is one [b]bread, we (K)who are many are one body; for we all partake of the one [c]bread. 18 Look at [d]the nation (L)Israel; are not those who (M)eat the sacrifices sharers in the altar? 19 What do I mean then? That a thing sacrificed to idols is anything, or (N)that an idol is anything? 20 No, but I say that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they (O)sacrifice to demons and not to God; and I do not want you to become sharers in demons. 21 (P)You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the table of the Lord and (Q)the table of demons. 22 Or do we (R)provoke the Lord to jealousy? We are not (S)stronger than He, are we?

11 These things happened to them as examples(A) and were written down as warnings for us,(B) on whom the culmination of the ages has come.(C) 12 So, if you think you are standing firm,(D) be careful that you don’t fall! 13 No temptation[a] has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful;(E) he will not let you be tempted[b] beyond what you can bear.(F) But when you are tempted,[c] he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

Idol Feasts and the Lord’s Supper

14 Therefore, my dear friends,(G) flee from idolatry.(H) 15 I speak to sensible people; judge for yourselves what I say. 16 Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break(I) a participation in the body of Christ?(J) 17 Because there is one loaf, we, who are many, are one body,(K) for we all share the one loaf.

18 Consider the people of Israel: Do not those who eat the sacrifices(L) participate in the altar? 19 Do I mean then that food sacrificed to an idol is anything, or that an idol is anything?(M) 20 No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons,(N) not to God, and I do not want you to be participants with demons. 21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord’s table and the table of demons.(O) 22 Are we trying to arouse the Lord’s jealousy?(P) Are we stronger than he?(Q)
