¹⁷But in the following instructions, I cannot praise you. For it sounds as if more harm than good is done when you meet together. ¹⁸First, I hear that there are divisions among you when you meet as a church, and to some extent I believe it. ¹⁹But, of course, there must be divisions among you so that you who have God’s approval will be recognized!

Correcting an Abuse of the Lord’s Supper^(A)

¹⁷In the following directives I have no praise for you,^(B) for your meetings do more harm than good. ¹⁸In the first place, I hear that when you come together as a church, there are divisions^(C) among you, and to some extent I believe it. ¹⁹No doubt there have to be differences among you to show which of you have God’s approval.^(D)
