11 For what man knows the things of a man except the (A)spirit of the man which is in him? (B)Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but (C)the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.

13 These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the [a]Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14 (D)But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

  1. 1 Corinthians 2:13 NU omits Holy

11 For who among people knows the thoughts of a person except the (A)spirit of the person that is in him? So also the thoughts of God no one knows, except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we (B)have not received the spirit of (C)the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God. 13 We also speak these things, (D)not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, [a]combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words.

14 But [b]a (E)natural person (F)does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are (G)foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.

  2. 1 Corinthians 2:14 Or an unspiritual

11 For what person knows the thoughts and motives of a man except the man’s spirit within him? So also no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the [Holy] Spirit who is from God, so that we may know and understand the [wonderful] things freely given to us by God. 13 We also speak of these things, not in words taught or supplied by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining and interpreting spiritual thoughts with spiritual words [for those being guided by the Holy Spirit].

14 But the natural [unbelieving] man does not accept the things [the teachings and revelations] of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness [absurd and illogical] to him; and he is incapable of understanding them, because they are spiritually discerned and appreciated, [and he is unqualified to judge spiritual matters].

11 For who knows a person’s thoughts(A) except their own spirit(B) within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 What we have received is not the spirit(C) of the world,(D) but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom(E) but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.[a] 14 The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God(F) but considers them foolishness,(G) and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.

  1. 1 Corinthians 2:13 Or Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual

11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
