³ You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling^(A) among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere humans?

³ But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality,^(A) or of any kind of impurity, or of greed,^(B) because these are improper for God’s holy people.

⁵ Put to death,^(A) therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature:^(B) sexual immorality,^(C) impurity, lust, evil desires and greed,^(D) which is idolatry.^(E)

¹⁴ But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition^(A) in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth.^{(B) 15} Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven^(C) but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.^(D)

¹⁸ But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart,^(A) and these defile them. ¹⁹ For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.^{(B) 20} These are what defile a person;^(C) but eating with unwashed hands does not defile them.”
