16 For how do you know, wife, whether you will bring your husband to salvation?[a] Or how do you know, husband, whether you will bring your wife to salvation?[b]

17 Nevertheless,[c] as the Lord has assigned to each one, as God has called each person, so must he live. I give this sort of direction in all the churches. 18 Was anyone called after he had been circumcised? He should not try to undo his circumcision.[d] Was anyone called who is uncircumcised? He should not get circumcised.

17 Nevertheless, each person should live as a believer in whatever situation the Lord has assigned to them, just as God has called them.(C) This is the rule I lay down in all the churches.(D) 18 Was a man already circumcised when he was called? He should not become uncircumcised. Was a man uncircumcised when he was called? He should not be circumcised.(E)
