[a]Hereby shall ye know the Spirit of God, [b]Every spirit which confesseth that [c]Jesus Christ is come in the [d]flesh is of God.

And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh, is not of God: but this is the spirit of Antichrist, of whom ye have heard, how that he should come, and now already he is in this world.

[e]Little children, ye are of God, and have overcome them: for greater is he that is in you, than he that is in this world.

This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh(A) is from God,(B) but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist,(C) which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.(D)

You, dear children,(E) are from God and have overcome them,(F) because the one who is in you(G) is greater than the one who is in the world.(H)
