18 We have known that every one who hath been begotten of God doth not sin, but he who was begotten of God doth keep himself, and the evil one doth not touch him;
19 we have known that of God we are, and the whole world in the evil doth lie;

17 All wrongdoing is sin,(A) and there is sin that does not lead to death.(B)
18 We know that anyone born of God(C) does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one(D) cannot harm them.(E) 19 We know that we are children of God,(F) and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.(G)
