10 and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods; but he kept not that which the Lord commanded.

11 Therefore the Lord said unto Solomon, “Forasmuch as this is done by thee, and thou hast not kept My covenant and My statutes which I have commanded thee, I will surely rend the kingdom from thee and will give it to thy servant.

12 Notwithstanding, I will not do it in thy days for David thy father’s sake; but I will rend it out of the hand of thy son.

10 Although he had forbidden Solomon to follow other gods,(A) Solomon did not keep the Lord’s command.(B) 11 So the Lord said to Solomon, “Since this is your attitude and you have not kept my covenant and my decrees,(C) which I commanded you, I will most certainly tear(D) the kingdom away from you and give it to one of your subordinates. 12 Nevertheless, for the sake of David(E) your father, I will not do it during your lifetime. I will tear it out of the hand of your son.
