25 He was Israel’s enemy throughout Solomon’s reign and, like Hadad, caused trouble. He loathed[a] Israel and ruled over Syria.

26 Jeroboam son of Nebat, one of Solomon’s servants, rebelled against[b] the king. He was an Ephraimite[c] from Zeredah whose mother was a widow named Zeruah. 27 This is what prompted him to rebel against the king:[d] Solomon built a terrace, and he closed up a gap in the wall of the city of his father David.[e]

25 Rezon was Israel’s adversary as long as Solomon lived, adding to the trouble caused by Hadad. So Rezon ruled in Aram(A) and was hostile toward Israel.

Jeroboam Rebels Against Solomon

26 Also, Jeroboam son of Nebat rebelled(B) against the king. He was one of Solomon’s officials, an Ephraimite from Zeredah, and his mother was a widow named Zeruah.

27 Here is the account of how he rebelled against the king: Solomon had built the terraces[a](C) and had filled in the gap in the wall of the city of David his father.
