⁷ Then Solomon built a high place for ^(A)Chemosh, the abhorrent idol of Moab, on the mountain that is ^[a]east of Jerusalem, and for ^(B)Molech, the abhorrent idol of the sons of Ammon. ⁸ He also did the same for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and sacrificed to their gods.

⁴ And ^(A)he built altars in the house of the Lord, of which the Lord had said, “^(B)In Jerusalem I will put My name.” ⁵ He built altars for ^(C)all the heavenly ^[a]lights in ^(D)the two courtyards of the house of the Lord. ⁶ And ^(E)he made his son pass through the fire, ^(F)interpreted signs, practiced divination, and used mediums and spiritists. He did great evil in the sight of the Lord, provoking Him to anger. ⁷ Then ^(G)he put the carved image of Asherah that he had made in the house of which the Lord had said to David and to his son Solomon, “^(H)In this house and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen from all the tribes of Israel, I will put My name forever.

^16 (A)Furthermore, Manasseh shed very much innocent blood until he had filled Jerusalem ^[a]from one end to another, besides his sin ^(B)into which he misled Judah, in doing evil in the sight of the Lord.

Grieving over Jerusalem

³⁷ “^(A)Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who ^(B)kills the prophets and stones those who have been sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, ^(C)the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling.
