Judah’s King Abijam

15 In the eighteenth year of Israel’s King Jeroboam son of Nebat, Abijam became king over Judah and reigned three years in Jerusalem.(C) His mother’s name was Maacah(D) daughter[b] of Abishalom.

Abijam walked in all the sins his father before him had committed,(E) and he was not completely devoted to the Lord his God as his ancestor David had been.(F) But because of David, the Lord his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem to raise up his son after him and to establish Jerusalem.(G) For David did what was right in the Lord’s eyes, and he did not turn aside from anything He had commanded him all the days of his life,(H) except in the matter of Uriah(I) the Hittite.

There had been war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all the days of Rehoboam’s life.(J) The rest of the events of Abijam’s reign, along with all his accomplishments, are written in the Historical Record of Judah’s Kings.(K) There was also war between Abijam and Jeroboam.(L) Abijam rested with his fathers and was buried in the city of David.(M) His son Asa became king in his place.(N)

Abijah King of Judah(B)

15 In the eighteenth year of the reign of Jeroboam son of Nebat, Abijah[b] became king of Judah, and he reigned in Jerusalem three years. His mother’s name was Maakah(C) daughter of Abishalom.[c]

He committed all the sins his father had done before him; his heart was not fully devoted(D) to the Lord his God, as the heart of David his forefather had been. Nevertheless, for David’s sake the Lord his God gave him a lamp(E) in Jerusalem by raising up a son to succeed him and by making Jerusalem strong. For David had done what was right in the eyes of the Lord and had not failed to keep(F) any of the Lord’s commands all the days of his life—except in the case of Uriah(G) the Hittite.

There was war(H) between Abijah[d] and Jeroboam throughout Abijah’s lifetime. As for the other events of Abijah’s reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? There was war between Abijah and Jeroboam. And Abijah rested with his ancestors and was buried in the City of David. And Asa his son succeeded him as king.
