³ And he ^[a]was afraid and arose and ran for his ^[b]life and came to ^(A)Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there. ⁴ But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a ^[c]juniper tree; and ^(B)he requested for himself that he might die, and said, “It is enough; now, O Lord, take my ^[d]life, for I am not better than my fathers.”

² “Arise, go to ^(A)Nineveh the great city and ^(B)cry against it, for their ^(C)wickedness has come up before Me.” ³ But Jonah rose up to flee to ^(D)Tarshish ^(E)from the presence of the Lord. So he went down to ^(F)Joppa, found a ship which was going to Tarshish, paid the fare and went down into it to go with them to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.
