²⁷ and say, ‘Thus says the king, “^(A)Put this man in prison and feed him ^[a]sparingly with bread and water until I return safely.”’”

¹⁰ Then Asa was angry with the seer and put him in ^[a]prison, for he was enraged at him for this. And Asa oppressed some of the people at the same time.

²¹ So ^(A)they conspired against him and at the command of the king they stoned him ^[a]to death in the court of the house of the Lord.

¹⁹ They will fight against you, but they will not overcome you, for ^(A)I am with you to deliver you,” declares the Lord.

Amos Accused, Answers

¹⁰ Then Amaziah, the ^(A)priest of Bethel, sent word to ^(B)Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, “Amos has ^(C)conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel; the land is unable to endure all his words. ¹¹ For thus Amos says, ‘Jeroboam will die by the sword and Israel will certainly go from its land into exile.’” ¹² Then Amaziah said to Amos, “^(D)Go, you seer, flee away to the land of Judah and there eat bread and there do your prophesying! ¹³ But ^(E)no longer prophesy at Bethel, for it is a ^(F)sanctuary of the king and a royal ^[a]residence.”
