10 (A)As to this salvation, the prophets who (B)prophesied of the (C)grace that would come to you made careful searches and inquiries, 11 [a]seeking to know what person or time (D)the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He (E)predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories [b]to follow. 12 It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these things which now have been announced to you through those who (F)preached the gospel to you by (G)the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things into which (H)angels long to [c]look.

13 Therefore, [d](I)prepare your minds for action, [e](J)keep sober in spirit, set your (K)hope completely on the (L)grace to be brought to you at (M)the revelation of Jesus Christ. 14 As [f](N)obedient children, do not [g](O)be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your (P)ignorance, 15 but [h](Q)like the Holy One who called you, [i](R)be holy yourselves also (S)in all your behavior; 16 because it is written: “(T)You shall be holy, for I am holy.”

17 If you (U)address as Father the One who (V)impartially (W)judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves (X)in fear during the time of your (Y)stay on earth; 18 knowing that you were not [j](Z)redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your (AA)futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, 19 but with precious (AB)blood, as of a (AC)lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ. 20 For He was (AD)foreknown before (AE)the foundation of the world, but has (AF)appeared [k]in these last times (AG)for the sake of you 21 who through Him are (AH)believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and (AI)gave Him glory, so that your faith and (AJ)hope are in God.

22 Since you have (AK)purified your souls (AL)in obedience to the truth for a (AM)sincere love of the brothers and sisters, fervently love one another from [l]the heart, 23 for you have been (AN)born again (AO)not of seed which is perishable, but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring (AP)word of God. 24 For,

(AQ)All flesh is like grass,
And all its glory is like the flower of grass.
The grass withers,
And the flower falls off,
25 (AR)But the word of the Lord endures forever.”

And this is (AS)the word which was [m]preached to you.

10 Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke(A) of the grace that was to come to you,(B) searched intently and with the greatest care,(C) 11 trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ(D) in them was pointing when he predicted(E) the sufferings of the Messiah and the glories that would follow. 12 It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you,(F) when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you(G) by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven.(H) Even angels long to look into these things.

Be Holy

13 Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober,(I) set your hope(J) on the grace to be brought to you(K) when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.(L) 14 As obedient(M) children, do not conform(N) to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.(O) 15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do;(P) 16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”[a](Q)

17 Since you call on a Father(R) who judges each person’s work(S) impartially,(T) live out your time as foreigners(U) here in reverent fear.(V) 18 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed(W) from the empty way of life(X) handed down to you from your ancestors, 19 but with the precious blood(Y) of Christ, a lamb(Z) without blemish or defect.(AA) 20 He was chosen before the creation of the world,(AB) but was revealed in these last times(AC) for your sake. 21 Through him you believe in God,(AD) who raised him from the dead(AE) and glorified him,(AF) and so your faith and hope(AG) are in God.

22 Now that you have purified(AH) yourselves by obeying(AI) the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply,(AJ) from the heart.[b] 23 For you have been born again,(AK) not of perishable seed, but of imperishable,(AL) through the living and enduring word of God.(AM) 24 For,

“All people are like grass,
    and all their glory is like the flowers of the field;
the grass withers and the flowers fall,
25     but the word of the Lord endures forever.”[c](AN)

And this is the word that was preached to you.
