So honor will come to you who believe; but for the unbelieving,

The stone that the builders rejected—
this one has become the cornerstone,[a](A)

and

A stone to stumble over,
and a rock to trip over.[b](B)

They stumble because they disobey the word; they were destined(C) for this.

But you are a chosen race,[c][d](D) a royal priesthood,[e](E) a holy nation,[f](F) a people for his possession,[g](G) so that you may proclaim the praises[h][i](H) of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.(I)

Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe,(A)
