1 Peter 3:19-21 New Living Translation (NLT)

19 So he went and preached to the spirits in prison— 20 those who disobeyed God long ago when God waited patiently while Noah was building his boat. Only eight people were saved from drowning in that terrible flood.[a] 21 And that water is a picture of baptism, which now saves you, not by removing dirt from your body, but as a response to God from[b] a clean conscience. It is effective because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 3:19-21 New International Version (NIV)

19 After being made alive,[a] he went and made proclamation to the imprisoned spirits 20 to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water, 21 and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God.[b] It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
