9 (A)not returning evil for evil or (B)insult for insult, but giving a (C)blessing instead; for (D)you were called for the very purpose that you would (E)inherit a blessing. 10 For,
“(F)The one who desires life, to love and see good days,
Must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit.
11 (G)He must turn away from evil and do good;
He must seek peace and pursue it.
12 (H)For the eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous,
And His ears attend to their prayer,
But the face of the Lord is against evildoers.”
13 (I)And who is [a]there to harm you if you prove zealous for what is good? 14 But even if you should (J)suffer for the sake of righteousness, (K)you [b]are blessed. (L)And do not fear their [c]intimidation, and do not be in dread,

“Whoever would love life
and see good days
must keep their tongue from evil
and their lips from deceitful speech.
11 They must turn from evil and do good;
they must seek peace and pursue it.
12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous
and his ears are attentive to their prayer,
but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”[a](G)
13 Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good?(H) 14 But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed.(I) “Do not fear their threats[b]; do not be frightened.”[c](J)
