4 People are shocked that you don’t now join in with the same wild and reckless behavior, and so they call down curses on you. 5 But they will have to account for it before the one who is ready to judge the living and the dead. 6 That is why, you see, the gospel was preached even to the dead, so that, being judged in human fashion, in the flesh, they might live in God’s fashion, in the spirit.

4 They are surprised that you do not join them in their reckless, wild living, and they heap abuse on you.(A) 5 But they will have to give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.(B) 6 For this is the reason the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead,(C) so that they might be judged according to human standards in regard to the body, but live according to God in regard to the spirit.
