6 Therefore (A)humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you at the proper time, 7 having cast all your (B)anxiety on Him, because He cares about you. 8 (C)Be of sober spirit, (D)be on the alert. Your adversary, (E)the devil, prowls around like a roaring (F)lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 [a](G)So resist him, (H)firm in your faith, knowing that (I)the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your [b]brothers and sisters who are in the world.

8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
