²⁴ Samuel said to all the people, “Do you see the one the Lord has chosen?^(A) There is no one like him among the entire population.”

And all the people shouted,^[a] “Long live the king!”^(B)

²⁵ For today he went down and lavishly sacrificed oxen, fattened cattle, and sheep. He invited all the sons of the king, the commanders of the army, and Abiathar the priest. And look! They’re eating and drinking in his presence, and they’re saying, ‘Long live King Adonijah!’

¹² He brought out the king’s son, put the crown^(A) on him, gave him the testimony,^[a](B) and made him king. They anointed^(C) him and clapped their hands and cried, “Long live the king!”^(D)
