²⁵ Samuel proclaimed to the people the rights of kingship.^(A) He wrote them on a scroll, which he placed in the presence of the Lord.^(B) Then Samuel sent all the people away, each to his home.

³ So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron. King David made a covenant with them^(A) at Hebron in the Lord’s presence, and they anointed David king over Israel.
