^(A)“Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices,
    as in obeying the voice of the Lord?
Behold, ^(B)to obey is better than sacrifice,
    and to listen than the fat of rams.

⁶ For ^(A)I desire steadfast love^[a] and not sacrifice,
    ^(B)the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.

^6 (A)“With what shall I come before the Lord,
    and bow myself before ^(B)God on high?
Shall I come before him with burnt offerings,
    with calves a year old?
^7 (C)Will the Lord be pleased with^[a] thousands of rams,
    with ten thousands of rivers of oil?
^(D)Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression,
    the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?”
⁸ He has told you, O man, what is good;
    and ^(E)what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,^[b]
    and to ^(F)walk humbly with your God?
